Season 2002-2003
The 3rd season of F.C.
St. Georges metoric rise saw them in the big time, the Notts Combination Premier
Division. Their reputation, founded on the back of 2 seasons without a league
loss, meant that the Premier League sides were out for St. George and aiming
to put them in their place.
Buoyed on by Pickances words from last season, St George set about there task
one game at a time. Led by some fantastic performances from the inspirational
Karl Theakstone and new boy Martin Wardle, St George started upon an epic
journey that began with a hard fought 3-2
win away at Plough Barflys and that would come to the most dramatic of ends
in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Priory Celtic (see
match report) that would see them crowned Premier Division Champions at
the first attempt.
Not that is was without scares, St. George tasted league defeat for the first
time, and 3 in total, in over 2 1/2 years when they went down 5-1 at home
to Woodlark Inn, on each occasion however, they put adversity to one side
and rose to the challenge to take the championship and allowing Captain Karl
Theakstone to lift the trophy on the final day of the season.
