Season
2001-2002
Season 2001-2002 was another great success on the league front from
F.C. St. George, for the 2nd season running they went the entire campaign unbeaten.
Of the 18 league games played, 15 were won and just the 3 drawn, scoring a staggering
73 goals in the process, enabling them to cruise to there 2nd league title by
a massive 12 points.
During the close season however, more Silverware came the way of St George as
they won the Mansfield Brewery / Calverton Summer Tournament Cup, beating some
Premier League opposition on the way, most notably a 5-0 hammering of Woodlark
Inn in the final. A scoreline that made the Premier Division sit up and take
notice, it was here that captain Warren Pickance told the squad that not only
would St George win the division 2 title this season, next time around they'd
be after the Premier League Crown.
The good start to the season continued with a 5-0 romp over eventual league
runners up DB Bulwell. New players were brought in strengthen the squad in the
shape of Tim Watkins, Gaz Hawkins and James McDonagh but it was the old school
that led the way as St. George steamrollered there way to title no2.
Solid at the back, creative, resiliant and adventurous in midfield, and deadly
up front, St George feared no-one as goals and victories flowed freely.
The only dissapointment for St. George was that they didn't manage to add a
Cup to there league success, again failing at the quarter final stages of both
competitions.
